Dramatis - Esau

Name: Esau

Age: 241 (at least)

Race: Vampire -- Malkavian

Esau was born under tragic and dark circumstances. In 1779, while admitted into an asylum for catatonia, Lilith York (mother of Selene, Diana, and Artemis York) was raped by one of her doctors. Lilith didn't wake and remained catatonic, even when it was revealed that she was pregnant. Esau was born later that year and sent to an orphanage in Scotland in an effort to cover the crime by the hospital staff. A number of Lilith's medical records were destroyed and not long after, Lilith herself died. All evidence and knowledgeable parties silenced.

He was adopted by a wealthy merchant named Ishmael Wallich, whose family originated in Prague. After his 13th birthday, he was sent to Venice to be educated and made into a proper gentleman. Esau, for the majority of his life, did not feel like he belonged. He noticed the differences in his appearances as well as intelligence from his family. Even in terms of religion, he was pulled into another direction. His primary hope was to join the Church, but as his family was Jewish, they were strongly against his inclinations and leanings. In a fit of anger, he renounced the Jewish faith and severed all ties to the Wallich clan.

He rose quickly through the ranks of the church, being made a bishop at the surprisingly young age of 28. His natural charm and affability made it easy for the senior members to trust him and regard him as a protege. He had designs to eventually become a cardinal and later, the Pope. However, all of this was derailed when at the age of 30, he was attacked in Vatican City.

Shortly after attending a late meeting with an archbishop, Esau was knocked unconscious and taken from the city. He eventually awoke in the England, turned and now a Malkavian. His sire was none other than the Father, Diana and Selene's grandsire who wanted to recreate the Garden of Eden, a place for kindred and kine to live in harmony and peace. Only recently, both Selene, Diana and Artemis had broken away from the teachings of "Grandmother", disgusted by her practices and desire to destroy any Cainites who did not follow her vision.

Upset at the loss of her Abel and Seth, Father had sought out another child of the York line, even a distant cousin, to act as her new protege and heir. Her investigations lead her to the circumstances of Esau's birth and the retrieval of the lost documents (all that could be saved) to prove he was one of her Children.

She revealed her plan to Esau, training and teaching him to become a leader of her army. His natural skills put to use, naturally swaying a multitude of vampires to their side. During this time, he learned his true parentage and that he had three sisters, also vampires. At his insistence, one of the members of the Sect, Joshua, was sent on an errand to collect information and intelligence on the York girls. Esau's primary goal to learn whether or not they were a threat, but also to know of the family he never had a chance to be part of.

Seeking to spread her message across the States, Grandmother lead an army into several cities, destroying the uncooperative vampires and creating numerous dhampir to act as their muscle. Esau, meanwhile, returned to Italy to create a base for himself in politics. Over the years, he managed to become a primogen and then later, Prince of Rome. His work in the church continuing behind the scenes, but now through his ghouls and contacts. His prestige reached a level that he had control over the whole of Italy and parts of the Holy Roman Empire (later collapsed into different countries, but his power maintained.)

New reached him in 2008 of Grandmother's destruction, as well as Selene and Diana's semi involvement. Driven to rage, Esau took on a new mission for his followers. Any that were viewed as imperfect to the Lord's plans, any sign of weakness, sin or rebellion, would be destroyed. The Garden would only allow perfection and those that were a slight against God had to be removed. He managed to extend his contacts across the sea into Central America, learning that Selene's favorite location was Tijuana. Unfortunately, he could not track down Diana, but Selene was enough of a rival and an affront to his vision of the Garden that Esau was satisfied with her. He forged an alliance with the Prince of Mexico City, urging them to subdue Selene and keep her locked away out of sight, at least until they could prove to the world what a monster she was. The Prince and Seneschal tortured and experimented on Selene, trying to draw out her beast to its breaking point. Unfortunately, she was saved by Joshua, who helped her to escape. News, however, reached Esau that Eve had appeared on the scene and he was confident that she would destroy his half sister.

His army grew and the chaos that had followed the remaining members of the Children of Eden dwindled, falling into line behind Esau. Only a small contingency of rebels remained, most notably Joshua, who was viewed as a dissenter and imperfect by Esau. The two men had quarreled over Esau's motives. Joshua viewing him as wanting nothing but revenge, rather than offering a home and security to the kindred that had been hunted and massacred over the years. He viewed Esau as jealous and arrogant, wanting to claim the lives his sisters had and angry that he had been born under such dark circumstances, leading him to be unwanted by his true clan. His zealotry was an affront to Joshua's belief that this Garden could be achieved through actual work and intelligence rather than fear. As Joshua was one of the few to know of Esau's origin, he was named a disbeliever and Esau demanded that his followers bring him Joshua's head. His notoriety hinging on the fact that he was viewed as a perfect creation, free of sin and darkness, a creature other than Caine with her violence and madness, Abel with her disloyal nature, or Seth with her rebellious instincts.

Joshua fled, tracking down Nott to Mexico. At his urging, Selene decided to take up arms against Esau's cult, viewing him as a danger to the existence of vampires, as well as to her family. She managed to locate the vampires targeted by Esau's assassins and rescued them, her army growing with each successful endeavor. Finally, after years of training, she traveled to Rome to face her half brother face to face.

Esau, however, had trained himself as well. His interest in religious mysticism encouraged and instructed by Grandmother during his fledgling years had now grown. Among his followers were several Tremere, conditioned to reveal secrets of their rituals, as well as the Path of Blood.

The final fight between them was bloody and fiery event. Numerous followers on both sides killed and slaughtered. Rome briefly turning into a battlefield for the vampires as the Masquerade was broken and Esau revealed to be the power behind the city. Mortals locked themselves into their homes, none fleeing as vampires fought in the streets, destroying each other viciously and savagely.

Before Nott's arrival to the Vatican, Esau had cast several rituals, one being the deflection of wooden stakes, only causing them to disintegrate upon contact with his body. Another was to turn his sword into a fiery blade. All the while he used his ability with the Path of Blood to steal vitae from Nott, as well as force her to expend it unwillingly. Their battle lasted for hours, destroying a great deal of the interior of the Vatican, the pair finally ending before an altar in one of the many chapels.

Esau managed to grab hold of Nott's hair, forcing her to the ground as he boiled the blood inside of her. Temporarily stopped, it seemed for a moment that her life would come to an end at her brother's hands. But Joshua appeared, jamming a stake into Esau's back. As it disintegrated, his focus was momentarily shifted to Joshua. Nott wrestled the fiery blade from Esau's hands and stabbed him through the chest.

She grappled her brother to the ground, having the upper hand due to her superior strength and potence. Finally, she bit into Esau, draining him completely of blood and diablrizing him before the altar of the God he followed. His death at the hands of the sister he had hated for so long, Caine fulfilling her fate.

Dominate: Command (With eye contact, the vampire may give a one-word command to a target.)
Dominate: Mesmerize (The vampire can give commands to a target, which may be as simple or detailed as desired. Eye contact must be maintained throughout the command, but is not necessary once the command has been given.)
Dominate: The Forgetful Mind (With eye contact, the vampire can alter her target’s memories.)
Dominate: Conditioning (A victim will continue to obey the vampire, even when not dominated, and the difficulty for all other vampires to try to dominate her is increased.)

Obfuscate: Cloak of Shadows (The vampire may be unnoticed by most, by hiding completely motionless in a shadow, or in a place that puts an object (not necessarily an object big enough to hide behind) between herself and others who might see her.)
Obfuscate: Unseen Presence (The vampire may go unseen, and even be subconsciously avoided, by others.)

Auspex: Heightened Senses (The vampire can sharpen any or all of her senses, at will, for as long as she wants. However, traumas caused by sensory overload (IE very bright lights, loud noises, etc) while in this state last much longer.)

Dementation: Passion (This makes the victim feel more emotional about everything. Whatever the victim currently feels is doubled or tripled in intensity. The vampire has no control over exactly what the person feels. This power may even work on other vampires.)

Path of Blood: 5
A Taste of Blood:  By merely touching the blood of his subject, the caster may determine how much vitae remains in the subject and, if the subject is a vampire, how recently he has fed, his approximate Blood Potency and, with an Exceptional Success, whether he has ever committed diablerie.

Blood Rage: This power allows a vampire to force another Kindred to expend blood against his will. The caster must touch her subject for this power to work, though only the lightest contact is necessary. A vampire affected by this power might feel a physical rush as the thaumaturge heightens his Physical Attributes, might find himself suddenly looking more human, or may even find himself on the brink of frenzy as his stores of vitae are mystically depleted.

Blood of Potency: The thaumaturge gains such control over his own blood that he may effectively “concentrate” it, making it more powerful for a short time.

Theft of Vitae: A thaumaturge using this power siphons vitae from her subject.

Cauldron of Blood: A thaumaturge using this power boils her subject’s blood in his veins like water on a stove. The Kindred must touch her subject, and it is this contact that simmers the subject’s blood. This power is always fatal to mortals, and causes great damage to even the mightiest vampires.

Rituals:
Deflection of Wooden Doom: This ritual protects the caster from being staked, whether she is resting or active. While this ritual is in effect, the first stake that would pierce the vampire’s heart disintegrates in the attacker’s hand. A stake merely held near the caster is unaffected; for this ritual to work, the stake must actively be used in an attempt to impale the vampire.

Burning Blade: Burning Blade allows a caster to temporarily enchant a melee weapon to inflict unhealable wounds on supernatural creatures. While this ritual is in effect, the weapon flickers with an unholy greenish flame.
