The moonlight peeks through the cracks of the door, the only bit of sanity that she can find in this cell. Her body sore and aching, unable to take the sheer exertion and exhaustion of screaming anymore. Her face and body bloody, naked against the stone floor. The cuts running deep along her skin. The same spiderweb patterns that she had noticed on the walls, caused when she was first brought here. Her fists having made quite an impact, but unable to completely tear through the stone.
Her hands trace over the small pebbles on the ground, the only piece of control she has left in this nightmare. Her voice muttering, whispering incoherently. The silence more maddening than the physical pain.
Every night they come for her, every night they beat and tear into her. But they never speak, they never say why. It's the questions, the not knowing, the constant longing for at least some contact beyond the agony. Some answer to the word that comes from her lips, the same one each session. Why?! WHY?!
She's shaking, her hands pushing the pebble out of her reach. This was where they keep animals and that is what she is slowly becoming. Even the small rationale of her mind recognizes it. Hunger outweighs questions, anger outweighs hunger, her beast is torn and pulled in different directions, but the results will be the same the moment she can break free.
She wants blood for this.
How long as she been here? Weeks? Months? Years? She doesn't even know anymore. She's been wallowing in her insanity for far too long. Nott has disappeared in her mind, even Selene is left mute. There is only Caine.
A light grows brighter through the cracks. Not silver, but orange and filled with fury. Even from her place on the floor, she can sense the heat. She lifts her head, hearing as glass shatters in the distance, something collapsing. Wood? A roof? It was a fire, but... that didn't make any sense. This place...it was stone and cold...
All at once, the door opens and light floods her senses. She shields her eyes, flinching backwards as though hit by the sun. She recoils, prepared to be grabbed and pulled out for more torture. But there is no one...nothing, only the sound of flames consuming a structure.
Slowly, she inches closer, peering out into the night. Still no sign of others. Her animal instinct waiting and preparing to dart forward. Another second and she's out the door, racing across the ground, allowing her adrenaline to dictate her directions. She's running across the compound, sensing others in the distance, but going in a different direction. Something else was distracting them, she was free.
Everything was a haze of smoke and energy. Her body steeling itself, forgetting the chilled air and the fatigue and pain. Smells assaulted her, sounds caused an aching in her head, but she wouldn't stop. Not now.
Two figures appear before her, stepping out of the darkness and reaching for her. She doesn't know them, she doesn't recognize them, but they are enemies trying to detain her. Her beast lunging forward, the smell of blood filling her as frenzy took hold.
She doesn't remember gaining the upper hand, knocking down one and then the other. Her fangs find the first's neck, draining the woman completely, feeling a vampire soul become absorbed inside her. The hunger is sated, but her madness still grasps her mind. She reaches for the figure, repeating the same action, consuming every inch of their generation and powers.
Selene falls back against the ground, gasping from sheer habit and shock. Already there is the sound of others coming closer. Without waiting, she is on her feet again, pushing herself towards the forest and freedom. She wouldn't stay here any longer, she wouldn't let them confine her and keep her like a caged beast. No more!
Caine was free!
